ECA Prepares Crypto-Agility Roadmap for Post-Quantum Transition

Post-quantum cryptography: ECA’s Cybersecurity Focus Group prepares its crypto-agility roadmap

Quantum computers able to break today’s public-key algorithms do not exist yet, but a European timetable has been published: the coordinated implementation roadmap issued on 23 June 2025 by the EU Member States, with the support of the European Commission, recommends that Member States start the transition by the end of 2026, protect high-risk use cases by the end of 2030 and complete it for as many systems as practically feasible by 2035. Within the European Champions Alliance’s Cybersecurity Focus Group, Amin Hasbini leads the work on a crypto-agility roadmap to help members inventory their cryptographic uses and plan their migration. Crypto-agility is the ability to change algorithms without rebuilding systems. The roadmap will draw on the European Post-Quantum Observatory project, whose preparatory committee (researchers, solution vendors, service providers) held a written consultation until 28 October 2026. The Observatory’s first edition is planned for January 2027, as an annual printable edition and an online version kept up to date. ECA members who wish to contribute to the Cybersecurity Focus Group’s work can write to the ECA team via welcome@european-champions.org.
