BACKDOORS AGAIN ?
The French Parliament is preparing to examine several texts related to cybersecurity. On this occasion, the parliamentary delegation on intelligence publicly assumes a strong position on encrypted messaging. It considers a targeted access to secure communication services to be “necessary and legitimate.” The delegation considers that a mechanism allowing “targeted access to certain encrypted content” would be “able to guarantee a fair balance” between the protection of public freedoms and the defense of the Nation’s fundamental interests.
A classical issue. The text is written to fight “bad guys”. As long as democracy prevails … But let’s imagine what an authoritarian regime could do with it …
YOUNG PERSONS PROTECTION AGAINST DIGITAL ADDICTION
As legal cases begin to spread in the USA against social media after suicide cases, Europe has so far been more than cautious to act. A changement can now be expected as the European Commission prepares a Digital Fairness Act, alas not due before the second half of 2027. It’s more than time: today in China ByteDance, the mother house of TIKTOK,imposes a 40 minutes use limit per day on minors, plus a total stop at night, while no such restriction is enforced in other countries a little as if the company recognizes Chinese youngsters should be protected against cognitive damage, but cannot care less about other palaces’ children…
