From Space to Factory Floors: Unseenlabs Deploys Gen 2 Satellites as France Backs Sovereign Robotics

UNSEENLABS EXTENDS ITS RANGE OF SERVICES

The French company Unseenlabs, which specializes in maritime monitoring by detecting and geolocating radio signals from space, has announced the deployment of its new generation of satellites (Gen 2). These satellites expand the ability to detect radio signals from space, originally aimed at maritime surveillance, to a multi-domain monitoring approach covering marine, land, and space environments. With this new generation, which still relies on the same single-satellite technology as the Gen 1 satellites whereas many operators prefer multi satellites linked together, Unseenlabs is moving from producing nanosatellites (around 15 kg) to microsatellites (around 150 kg). According to Clément Galic, CEO and co-founder of Unseenlabs, the new satellites “now allow detecting, geolocating, and characterizing a wider range of activities in maritime, land, and space domains, thus opening up new areas of application while strengthening our ability to support users in commercial, security, and defense markets.”

FRANCE TO INVEST IN ROBOTICS AND OTHER INTELLIGENT MACHINES

The General Secretary for Investment (SGPI) announced on July 10 the launch of a new call for projects as part of its national strategy “Robotics and Intelligent Machines.” Called “Flagships Challenge,” this program run by Bpifrance aims to “support the development of advanced and sovereign subsystems (structural, functional, and cognitive) for solutions in robotics, drones, and intelligent machines.”

The call for projects aims to bring together both emerging players and major industry actors, to develop “sovereign European reference products,” produce them, and bring them to market. Projects will need to be led by a consortium, focusing on developing a “differentiated technological offering,” “complete and clearly beyond the current state of the art,” according to the main points outlined by Bpifrance.
