NIS2 Delays, Fortress Threats & European Cyber Growth

NIS2: TRANSLATION INTO FRENCH LAW WILL WAIT (ONCE MORE)

NIS2, an EU regulation, should have been introduced in each national law before October 17, 2024. Today, the French Government evokes the accumulation of texts  to be discussed in Parliament … But the real reason seems to be a controversy between parliamentarians and the Directorate General for Internal Security (DGSI). At the heart of the debates is Article 16 bis of the resilience bill, which transposes NIS 2. This amendment sponsored by Senator Olivier Cadic and already adopted by the Senate aims to prevent the state from forcing encryption service providers, including messaging apps, to build in backdoors.

The risk is that cybersecurity remains a “technical” topic, not properly overseen by EXCOs and Boards, whereas NIS2 makes these upper layers responsible in case of negligence.

NETHERLANDS: HADRIAN RAISES 40M£ TO EXPAND FOOTPRINT AND ADD MORE FUNCTIONS

WALLIX IS LAUNCHING A SOLUTION DESIGNED TO SECURE AND MANAGE DIGITAL IDENTITIES AND ACCESS.

The solution’s features enable user identity verification via multi-factor authentication (MFA), simplify application access through Single Sign-On (SSO), and allow access to various environments without the need for multiple identities or accounts, thanks to identity federation. Access rights evolve alongside the user from onboarding to offboarding ensuring that individuals always have the access they need.

This level of control extends to the infrastructure itself. Designed to integrate with existing environments and available with the same core functionality either as SaaS or fully on-premises WALLIX Sovereign Identity Access gives organizations the choice of how to operate their identity systems and manage their data in accordance with their specific requirements.

FORTIBLEED THE FORTINET DEFAULT STILL THREATENING USERS

The Fortinet credential-harvesting frenzy dubbed FortiBleed continues to compromise vulnerable firewalls and lock users out of their systems, U.S. authorities warned onTuesday October 6. Almost four months after the campaign came to light, the FBI and Secret Service said hackers are still actively scanning for exposed Fortinet FortiGate firewalls and virtual private networks, using previously obtained credentials to gain access and taking control of compromised systems. “Affected organizations may find themselves locked out of their systems if threat actors disable accounts or change passwords, requiring remediation steps beyond standard patching and password resets,” the agencies warned in an advisory. “In addition, the FortiBleed attack chain has been observed as an initial entry point for ransomware affiliates.”
