Who are we?

The European Champions Alliance is a not-for-profit initiative led by a group of European experts in entrepreneurship and multi-skilling who want to bring about a cultural change in the way we work together across Europe. The ECA strategically and operationally supports young scale-ups and SMEs in the tech sector to become European through their strategies, policies, management, marketing and communication, implementation and range of products and services.

About the European Champions Alliance

The European Champions Alliance is a non-for-profit association building an ecosystem of start-ups, scale-ups, SMEs, corporates and industry experts committed to European Tech and values. The Alliance leverages their European network by sharing market knowledge and activating joint business opportunities between the members to support the growth of European Champions.

 

The ECA is run by a European network of experienced professionals from different sectors (investors, consultants, business leaders, administration representatives), all committed to the development of European technology champions. ECA is a do tank focussing on go-to-business, pragmatic and operational issues. The ECA’s work is divided into different focus groups, which are constantly growing:

Joining the ECA as an executive assistant, you will have the opportunity to contribute to the growth of a unique European project. Your daily interlocutors will be tech entrepreneurs as well as business leaders, managers within SMBs or large corporate players (CAC 40, Dax 30, …) as well as members of the public sector (European Commission, parliamentary deputies of European countries, other associations, …). 

 

Our organisation has started its journey at the Franco-German-Dutch level but our ambition is to extend our activities to the Nordics and Southern Europe to become a true European organisation.

About the internship

This internship will give you deep insights in all fields of a professional association (sales, management, business development, marketing, communication, event management and more). Within the European Champions Alliance you will be in charge of: 

 

  • Management of the day-to-day activities of the Alliance  

 

    • Manage the day-to-day operations of the association in support of the management and the board
    • Organize meetings with the core team (weekly), the executive (monthly) and steering committee (quarterly)  as well as the supervisory board (quarterly)

 

  • Leadership of our community:

 

    • Help us find and convince new members to join our community
    • Manage member admissions and take care of the well being of our members in the community 
    • Organize, guide and monitor the activity of our members in different focus groups (e.g. cybersecurity, industry 4.0)in coordination

 

  • Communication and marketing on our activities: 

 

    • Email Marketing
    • Social Media Management
    • Content marketing (blog, press, …)
    • Develop marketing tools (presentation, preparation of events) in order to present ECA’s offer

 

  • Business development:

 

    • Search and contact potential partners (corporates, scale-ups or administration, economic promotion) 
    • Present ECA’s offer and work with scale-ups to analyze a targeted market and develop an internationalization plan until it becomes operational

 

  • Event organization and management

 

    • Create and run virtual and physical events with our partners (morning talks, conferences, webinars, physical events if possible, etc.)
    • Manage and promote partner events and ECAs implication in those events
The profile we're looking for:
  • Our project is your passion: You have a strong European spirit and mindset and believe in the power of smart collaboration and the European project. 
  • You are as passionate as we are about new technologies and the tech / start-up / scale-up sector.    
  • You have a background in or are studying international or European relations, political science, or economics/business
  • C2-level/mother-tongue in French or German is ABSOLUTELY MANDATORY, proficient in English/German/French
  • You have advanced skills in marketing tools such as Powerpoint, WordPress and social networks, video-editing, InDesign, Canva, etc. 
  • You enjoy working in a group & animating networks. You are not afraid of cooperating with senior profiles who are experts in their field.
  • You are very organized and are able to steer different projects to achieve their objectives.
  • You are very autonomous, independent and self-driven as most of the internship will be in remote work with several interactions per day or per week with the members of the management and the board.
  • You have good communication skills, both oral and written.
  • You are very flexible, a great team player, able to work in a multicultural environment, adaptable to your interlocutors but never losing sight of your goals
Specificities
  • The internship will be mostly remote until we can work again in a physical setting, then the internship can be in Paris or Frankfurt.
  • You have to be engaged in a university throughout the entire time of the internship
  • You need to provide a “convention de stage” with your university

 

Collaborating for ECA will allow you to develop your network consistently with experienced people from a variety of sectors to co-construct the scale-up support ecosystem in Europe. You will not be in charge of making coffee but you will actively participate in our development, reasoning and giving your opinion with the strategic committee, all in a very European environment. Your missions will therefore be as much strategic (in relation with the management, think about our offer) as operational (present ECA, animate a network, present an internationalization plan to a scale-up).

A communication strategy advisor [voluntary commitment]

Who acts as a sparring partner with the Association’s General Management, to
– advising, instilling, and revising the animation policy of the association’s various communities
– advising, instilling and revising of the event communication strategy
– advising, instilling and revising of the European communication strategy
– advising, instilling and revising of communication elements for DGs, CEOs, Presidents, etc.

The person should have a proven expertise in digital topics, Start-Up, Scale-Up.

It should be noted that the execution of the communication strategy is handled by the association’s internal human resources.
Estimated investment time: 2-3 hours/month [voluntary commitment].
Integration of the person into the Executive Committee of the association.

An accountant / treasurer [voluntary commitment]

Here is the profile we are looking for:
– English, French (German will be a plus)
– Good ease with all the digital tools of the accounting chain
– Payments, receipts, registration, production of management statements (balance sheet, interim balance, etc.), company statements, etc.
– Advice to management, monitoring of monthly budgets
– Estimated investment for the installation: 20 hours
– Estimated monthly investment: 2-3 hours/month [volunteer involvement].

A fundraiser [voluntary commitment / success fee]
  • contact people, introduce them to our association and make them become members
  • canvassing high-level decision-makers and setting up ad hoc financing operations

Community Management and Strategic Partnerships in a focus group (freelance / pro bono / internship)

What we offer to motivated persons / students

Support the growth of European projects in the tech sector within the ECA by building up a network of experts from promising sectors in the tech field within one of our focus groups. This is an opportunity to gain first professional experience or to write a bachelor/master thesis on a specific topic, as your interlocutors will be very young entrepreneurs as well as business leaders, managers within large CAC 40 or Dax groups and members of the administration (European Commission, Members of Parliament of European countries…).

Your tasks

Within the European Champions Alliance you are responsible for :

The administration and leadership of a focus group:

  • The organisation, management, and supervision of the activities of our members in a group (e.g. Industry 4.0)
  • You coordinate the activities of this group with the ECA Board
  • Creation and organisation of events with our institutional partners (morning talks, conferences within BpiFrance, etc.).
  • Commercial management and marketing of your focus group activities

Business development and marketing:

  • Search and contacting potential partners (companies, scale-ups or administration, business development)
  • Present the ECA offer and work with scale-ups to analyse a target market and develop an internationalisation plan until it becomes operational.
  • Develop marketing tools (presentation, preparation of events) to present ECA’s offer.
  • Communication via the Internet and our social networks (WordPress and LinkedIn)

Your profile

  • You have a background in international relations, science policy or economy/business.
  • At least bilingual in German and / or English, knowledge of French is a plus
  • Advanced knowledge of marketing tools such as Powerpoint, WordPress and social networks, video editing, Indesign etc.
  • You like to work in groups to animate a network. You are not afraid to work with senior profiles who are experts in their field.
  • You are very organized and able to manage the different projects to achieve their goals.
  • You have good communication skills, both oral and written.

We are looking for a talented Social media manager to administer our social media accounts. You will be responsible for creating original text and video content, managing posts and responding to followers. You will manage ECAs image in a cohesive way to achieve our marketing goals.

As a Social media manager, we expect you to be up-to-date with the latest digital technologies and social media trends. You should have excellent communication skills and be able to express our company’s views creatively.

Ultimately, you should be able to handle our social media presence ensuring high levels of web traffic and member engagement.

  • Perform research on current benchmark trends and audience preferences
  • Design and implement social media strategy to align with our goals

Content Creator responsibilities include producing marketing copy to advertise our products, writing blog posts about industry-related topics and promoting our content on social media. To be successful in this role, you should have experience with digital publishing and generating traffic and leads for new business. We are looking for an outstanding Web Developer to be responsible for the coding, innovative design and layout of our WordPress website. Web developer responsibilities include building our website from concept all the way to completion from the bottom up, fashioning everything from the home page to site layout and function.
