European Champions Alliance launches its Green Tech Focus Group to support the European Green Tech landscape

With 2021 being the turning point to act and tackle the transition towards a sustainable and environment-friendly economy, the European Champions Alliance is very proud to launch its Green Tech Focus Group, led by Cécile Garcia Le Goff.

The challenge of greening the economy, digitalisation and the Tech scene are inextricably linked

Greening the economy is one of the biggest challenges that our society is facing, with the predicament of catering to a growing population’s needs with limited (or depleted) resources. Whilst the topic isn’t new, it is today more relevant than ever – not least in light of the COVID-19 crisis which has impacted in multiple ways the urge to act.
With increasingly more stakeholders ready to commit and “make a positive impact”, the EU itself strives to become the first climate-neutral continent and is giving itself the means to achieve this via the EU Green Deal.

However this can not be achieved without adequate research and technology: an efficient transition to a sustainable economy goes hand in hand with digitalisation. And likewise, it is crucial that the digital transformation be sustainable.

No wonder then, that we have recently witnessed a massive increase in Green Tech companies, players and investments in Europe.

European Green Tech needs more transparency and collaboration to achieve utmost efficiency in supporting EU goals

But beyond the growth of the landscape and the importance of the task(s) that it has given itself, we need to question ourselves on how the problems are being resolved. Do we have a common understanding of the words we are using? What does the umbrella word Green Tech actually mean? Positive impact, a word which is also broadly resorted to, and its measure are understood differently by various stakeholders.

  • We need more transparency and mutual definitions within the European landscape.
  • We need alignment with regard to what is needed to achieve the EU Green Deal and avoid greenwashing.
  • We need coherence and intelligent (and cross-border) collaboration.

At ECA, we believe that supporting and promoting European Tech Champions can only be achieved by creating transparency, incentivising smart collaboration and enabling cross-border networking to enhance synergies.

This is the goal that we have given ourselves for the European Green Tech landscape.
